Day 5: Excited, Uncertain, Determined, Energized, Exhausted… [Lamar CISD]

Whew! Has it only been a week?!? We have had so many different experiences together in such a short amount of time that I feel like it has accelerated the quality of our relationships with one another. Due to this acceleration the range of emotions that everyone is feeling is also varied by extremes. Once you’ve had time to decompress after you hit that wall of reality in getting things started for another school year, I want you to try to remember a few key points.

1) If you don’t actively plan for what you have learned, nothing will ever come of it. It is imperative that not only should you think about your actions, but you should also create an action plan as well as follow-up on it.

2) Some people will never understand the power of what you are sharing with them. Don’t let that discourage you from what you have experienced and now know to be true. Continue to provide them with opportunities and share your experiences. Practicing what you preach by modeling your knowledge and beliefs is one of the best ways to encourage others. Linda also shared a great suggestion in the blog comments about making sure to invite administrators, parents, PTO/Board members, and other community members to share in your activities as well. Those groups can be strong advocates for what you are trying to demonstrate.

3) YOU ARE NOT ALONE! We are here to help you FOREVER. All you need to do is send an e-mail and we will do whatever we can to assist. We also want to continue to be involved in your journey. Please let us know when you are doing your small group project or any videoconferencing project. I would love to come and hang out so I can continue to learn with you.

Day 4: I LOVE ASK! [Lamar CISD]

Today is my absolute favorite day of the Jazz workshop. In my opinion, nothing showcases the power of videoconferencing better than an ASK program with Veterans. Combine that with an unexpectedly moving book in “The Wall” with one of the best videoconferencing facilitators in the world (Roxanne Glaser) and you have a recipe for success. The LEARNnco activity with Andy Campbell and the Singing with Shane program are also a lot of fun. If you’re interested in good Texas country music, you should also check out the Shane Howard Band. As we are closing out the workshop and you are working towards completing your small group projects please reflect on the questions below and share your thoughts.

Thank you all again for another great day in Jazz! This is one of my favorite days in Jazz because of the range of emotions we experience between the ASK Program (about the Wall) and Singing with Shane. The ASK Program is even more meaningful to me because of our location (we usually have a Vietnam Vet & Army wives in our Jazz group) and I really appreciate their insight. Please take a few moments to reflect on these questions.

Can you believe the week of Jazz is almost over? I am sure many of you thought, “How are we going to spend a week talking about videoconferencing?”, and we have hardly touched the surface of all the wonderful ways to incorporate videoconferencing in your curriculum!

For today’s reflection, consider your small group work writing your lesson, the ASK session from this morning, and the sessions with LEARNnco and Shane Howard this afternoon.

Day 3: Did You Bring Your Sunglasses? [Lamar CISD]

Can you believe we are already completing the third day of our workshop? It seems longer to me due to everything we have experienced together already. If you didn’t bring your sunglasses for MysteryQuest Beaches this morning you may want to have them handy for the remainder of the week because all of your futures are looking bright. The conversations that I listened to yesterday really had my brain working. Sitting in on your small group sessions and hearing the ideas that were being shared really has me looking forward to the projects that you are developing. Please remember that we are not only available to help you this week. We want to continue to work with you during your videoconference journey. I would personally LOVE to be present when you do your small group project, so you better remember to invite me.
