1.”What have you noticed about interactions among workshop facilitators? among participants in your room? in your small group?”
I’ve noticed that Skype seems to be used more effectively to help with some of the technical difficulties. I think this leads the group to spend the time on topic rather than troubleshooting. I’ve noticed that our local group have had a lot of side discussion spurred from the ideas from other areas. In our small group (there’s only two of us), we’ve spent so much time discussing our project that I haven’t really thought about how we interact. I think we’ve been comfortable with each other from the start, and so much of what we discuss seems to be similar and we have similar ideas.
2. “What new vocabulary have you learned this week?”
There’s a lot of new words for different people, so much of which seem to be acronyms, like VC (videoconferencing). I’m lucky to be pretty up to date when it comes to some techie terms, so much of the vocab this week isn’t that new to me, but it certainly helps me to hear it and see other people understand it, too.

I have noticed the interactions among the workshop facilitators is low key. If you were not aware they were working on the sidelines you would not even know they were facilitating. The exception occurs when we have a problem. The participants’ do their best to offer information and collaborate with peers in the classroom. Each person in our group is good about stepping up to the plate. We all share information and help each other complete their daily jobs. Our project partners are awesome. They have got some really interesting ideas. They are also very knowledgeable and are more than willing to share.
The new language is distance learning, I really had not experienced video conferencing and distance learning until I actually experienced it in the class. The ASK videoconferencing was new. I found the idea of tapping into the specialist for background information would be invaluable. I would use this before we actually read a book then finish up with the author. Map Quest was finding a place/location giving clues. Once again I would use the map quest to work on relative location. Skype I had heard of, however really didn’t have any idea what it was. Now I am going to try to hook up my webcam, download the apps and connect up with my son in Texas. Flickr was a new term. Now I see how nice being able to tag a photo is. Flickr is a quick way to date and identify a group. The Global Nomads Group would be useful in that you interact in topics that are current and should be important for our students to understand. Mobius Strips was another term that was new but I will remember from now on.

I have noticed that there is a lot of side discussions as we progress. I think this is just valuable knowledge to have when planning a vc. You should schedule some talk time in between, because those discussions are always valuable.
As for the new voc, I have learned new words or names of some things that I have been previously exposed to, but have not used the technical terms.

I really value what the facilitators provide– it really augments what we’re doing. It has been fun developing an identity as a group in our room. I’ve really enjoyed my small group work.
New vocabulary– gosh, I’m a bit overwhelmed. Most of this has been new.
Today was a very powerful day. It has been exciting learning and participting win all the different vc formats.

I feel more familiar and comfortable with each day, and as we go, I feel a bit more confident in my knowledge and ability. It’s been a very informative and eye-opening experiencing!
